We were awake and ready to go before the alarm went off. We arrived at our pickup point before 5.30am and only just before the bus arrived so Pat had little time to greet our fellow passengers while John rushed to leave the car in a safe place.
We were soon on our way across France from the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic Coast pausing at Toulouse for breakfast and passing through Taubes and Lourdes before stopping at Bayonne for lunch for a couple of hours.
The French countryside along the route is wooded and green with streams and the odd lake.
Once in Spain, we were seeing the newly built fast railway lines - a new route is to open this year.
At the end of the day, we had an hour to see Burgos and particularly its impressive cathedral - yet another stopping point for pilgrims on their way to St Jacques de Compostella.

The cathedral has a long history back to the 11th century. Some evidence of an older cathedral remain.
The city has several levels. Ornate Steps off the cathedral square
Another small church is above the level of the entrance to the cathedral. There were not many visitors to its elaborate interior
At the same level is this monastery
and the higher levels of the cathedral.
Outside the ancient walls, is the modern town square, full of cafes and bars and , of course, people
Our walk back to the bus along the 'parading ground', lined with trees
By the bus, was a Roman style church
In the evening, we arrived at our hotel in time for dinner., a short walk in the ground and bed.
