Demonstration of unity in a french village
When we returned from Spain, we saw that there was to be a village event to recognise the Paris shootings a few days before. While the big cities had marches, we gathered together to hear a short speech from the mayor, observe a minute's silence, applaud the victims and sing the Marseilles. By 1130, the village square was full of people greeting each other and catching up with their new year greetings: "happy new year, good health and it's the health that is the most important". It was a simple ceremony, but touching after the terrible event of the previous few days.
